Welcome Back. Term 3 Week 1

Welcome back to Term 3!!
We hope that you have had a great break and holiday.

We come back to school as we ended last term. A reminder:
School gates are open from 8:15am. It was so great to have the children independently
walking into class and follow the morning routines last term. The teachers are always
available to talk with parents and families, but please remember that from 8:30 we are
setting up play provocations and supporting the children with their morning activities. We
welcome you to come and see us, the teachers, at the end of the day as well.

The end of the day bell rings at 2:45pm for Kakano. The students can either be picked up
from class or they can walk to meet you at the desired gate. Please let the classroom
teacher know which gate you would like them to meet you at if they are being picked up there.

In week 2 we will be having the Three Way Student/Parent/Teacher Conferences. You will
be able to book a time to see the classroom teacher online. School reports will be sent out
at the end of this week. The three way conferences will give you time to talk about the
reports and to come up with goals for Term 3. We look forward to meeting with every family!!

This term we will also be starting Go4it. This is a health and PE programme taken by an
instructor with the support of the classroom teacher. Each class will have a Go4it session
once a week.

Remember to bring your reading logs back by Wednesday this week to ensure you are in
the draw for the reading log prizes!!!!!

Enjoy the last day of your holiday in the sun!

See you all tomorrow :)

Week 12

We have made it to the last week of this term!! Thank you all for your hard
work and support this term. It has definitely been one of a kind and we couldn’t
have done it without you. The children have all shown resilience and courage
throughout this term. Last week we tested the children to prepare for reports
and student led conferences at the start of next term. It was so pleasing to see
that most of our children have continued to make great progress in reading,
writing and maths. Thank you also for handing in the children’s report forms
back. A reminder that these will be filled in by us, the teachers, and sent back
to you at the beginning of next term.

This week is filled with exciting end of term activities before a well deserved
school holiday break!

Matariki soup
To learn more about and celebrate Matariki, we will be making a pumpkin soup
during the week. At school we will be preparing the ingredients, cooking the
ingredients, making bread and eating our soup with bread.

Bake Sale Tuesday
The middle school students are holding a bake sale at morning tea time on
Tuesday. Please bring a few dollars to support them. The teachers will take the
Kakano students over to ensure their money is handled properly and they get
to choose a suitable baked item.

School photos WEDNESDAY
School photos on Wednesday. All students must be in correct school uniform.
Girls will be wearing their dresses and skivvies while the boys need to be
wearing their knitted jersey over their skivvy. No polar fleeces will be worn in
the photo.

Principal’s morning tea
This is the termly event held with Mr McMillan where 3 students are recognised
for their hard work or participation in the classroom and are invited to the
morning tea.

PTA SCHOOL DISCO!!!!
Thursday night from 5:30 - 7PM! Children are to be dropped off at the hall
doors and picked up promptly from the hall doors by 7PM. Entry is free
however there will be a bunch of food and drink items to be purchased at the

Holiday Reading Log
These will be sent home this week. Please record all of the books you read
during the holidays and bring back to school next term. This will ensure your
child is in the running for the reading log draw to win great prizes!

is also Friday so please bring your old library books back!!

We look forward to seeing you this week :)

Week 11

We have another busy week ahead in Kakano.

Things you need to know:
  • School starts at 8:45, please make sure your child is at school by this time.
If they are late they need to go to the office as they will be marked Late on the roll.
If you have not yet returned the report forms sent home a week ago please do
so ASAP.  If you need a new form please get in touch with your child’s teacher
via email.
  • Library is this Friday. Please remind your child to bring their library bags and
books. We have had children not return their books since lockdown so these are
now overdue.
  • Sausage Sizzle and Juicies can be purchased on Friday ($1.50 for each).
  • It is still important for our children to maintain good hygiene.  We still clean all
surfaces twice a day and ask the children to sanitise their hands as they enter the
classroom.  If your child is unwell they need to stay at home so we do not have
germs being spread around the classroom.

Thank you for all your support,

Kakano Teachers

Week 10

A reminder that due to the lockdown our term has changed and although it is
now week 10, we still have 3 weeks to go as it is a 12 week term! The children have all been coping so well at school and we encourage you to keep up all of
the great support at home to ensure a smooth finish to this long term.

As we are in level 1 now a number of our school routines are back to normal.
School for ALL year groups starts at 8:45am. The morning roll is completed at
this time so please, if you are late, sign in at the office on your way in to make
sure your child has been marked present for the day. The school gates are
open from 8:15am for students to start being dropped off. The teachers have
been so proud of all the students coming into class on their own so confidently!
We congratulate you as parents for teaching them this independence and we
notice how much more settled they are in class in the mornings from being
able to do this.

It is important for you to know that the teachers are always welcoming and
available for parent concerns or queries around your children. The mornings
are quite busy and we may not get enough time for discussions as this is time
we need to spend with the class. However, once the school bell has gone and
the children have been picked up at the end of the day we are much more free
to speak with families. So please come and see us! It has been a long time
since we’ve caught up with a lot of you and if you’re able to come into school
for a chat at that time then you are welcome to.

Thank you for keeping your children at home if they are unwell. We are still
working hard to keep good hygiene a priority in Kakano. You can help us by
making sure your children are able to wipe their own noses if they are feeling
sniffly and by coughing/sneezing into their elbows. Our children are already
very good at sanitizing their hands where appropriate.

On Friday we have a liturgy in the hall at 9AM. Our school masses in the
church are not going ahead yet but we will still be coming together as a school
to celebrate the Feast of the Sacred Heart.

Mid-year reporting and conferencing
We have decided due to the Covid-19 outbreak to do our mid-year reporting a little differently this
year. We are very interested in how your child went while learning from home. We would like to use
this information, as well as our observations from school to set goals around the New Zealand
Curriculum Key competencies. On Friday you received a rubric form to complete, keeping in mind
how your child went while learning from home. PLEASE RETURN THE RUBRIC/REPORT TO
YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER BY WEDNESDAY. Teachers will also complete the school part of the
rubric and this information will be sent home during the first week back next term. In week 2 term 3
we will offer 3 way conferences so that we can set goals with you and your child around these for the
future.

The week ahead brings singing on Thursday and our usual Friday, that is
library day and sausage sizzle/juicy day.

Hope you have a great rest of your weekend and we look forward to seeing the
children tomorrow!

Week 9

We have had an amazing week with our lovely Kakano children. The
children are so settled walking into school on their own and are very happy
and content completing their daily tasks.  A big well done to all our parents
and whanau for the great job you are doing to make your children
independent.
Hopefully later in the week we should be able to move to Level 1. This
should mean that there will be even fewer restrictions on us. We will let
you know of any changes as they occur.

Reminders
  • School drop off time is now 8:30-9:00. School pick up time is 2:45.
  • If it is wet, you will need to pick up from Kakano, please.
  • The drinking fountains are still out of action while we are at Level 2.
  • Please make sure your child comes to school with a drink bottle filled with water.

The RE team is running an art competition.  See below for details.  Your
child may like to create a piece of art at home for this competition.

Health and Fitness wit Amy

On Wednesday we headed outside to work with Whaea Amy from Sport Bay of Plenty.  We loved playing the games and learning about things that make us healthy.  We knew that running, jumping, walking and playing is good for us and keeps us healthy.  We also learnt that exercise keeps our brains healthy and helps us to feel good.

Week 10

This week is the final week of the 2020 school year.  It has been a year filled with many new learning opportunities.  We have loved watchin...
